John Swainson. New York.

John Swainson has been with Silver Lake since 2010 and is presently a Senior Advisor working with the Silver Lake portfolio companies on value creation activities.

From 2005 to 2009, John was the chief executive officer of CA, Inc. and a member of the company's Board of Directors. John took the reins at CA during a very difficult time in the company’s history and was very successful in guiding the company to regain its leadership in enterprise software and systems.

An engineer by training, he has led software operations ranging from sales and marketing to product development. In every case, he has been sharply focused on customers and on how IT can make their businesses more competitive.

Before joining CA, John spent 26 years at IBM, most recently as vice president of worldwide sales for IBM's Software Group. Earlier, as general manager of the Application Integration and Middleware division, he and his team developed, marketed and launched the highly successful WebSphere family of middleware products. John serves on the board of directors of Assurant, Inc., VISA, Inc., Cadence Design Systems, and Computer Science and Telecommunications Board. He holds a bachelor of applied science degree in engineering from the University of British Columbia.
